Factory Production/Development FAQ:


What types of products do you manufacture? 

Spooltown produces handbags, accessories and many other soft goods.  We specialize in items made from high-stakes, finicky fabrics like leather, faux leather and waxed canvas. We do not currently take on any clothing or knitwear projects.

What services do you provide in-house?

We offer the following services: technical drawings (tech packs), pattern making, sampling/prototyping, sourcing, pattern digitizing, cutting, and production sewing. 

Can you give me an estimate?

We can give out a ballpark estimate after seeing a sewn sample. We can't give an exact quote without first sewing up a few samples in-house. That allows us to determine which sewers need to work on a given project, how long it will take and what the process of making should be. We're not interested in passing on unnecessary costs to our clients, and because our expenses are largely labor-based, it would be foolhardy for us to risk under-pricing. We've found in the years that we've been doing this that we have to build a sustainable and straightforward business in order to stick around, and that's how we do it.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

We can produce runs as small as 50 pieces per style, per colorway, and as large as 1,000 pieces or more.

Can I see some examples of your work?

We really pride ourselves in our high quality standards for sewing. All of our work is private label and we have a wide range of clients, some of whom are comfortable with us mentioning their names and some who aren't. If you email us at info@spooltown.com we can send you a partial list of clients. This should give you a sense of our range of capabilities and attention to detail.

Can you source materials for me?

Yes. If you are interested in handing over sourcing of certain or all materials, we have a materials library which shows a variety of fabrics, trims, and hardware. Sourcing can take additional time if we do not have a certain material in the library. Instead of charging by the hour for this service, we add a small mark-up to the cost of materials.

Do you work with start-ups?

The right designer/manufacturer fit is essential to getting a product made. While we do work with some start-ups, we find that we need to keep a healthy balance of low volume/small designer projects and higher volume clients with established businesses. 

Will you sign an NDA?

Because so many people come to us with different variations of NDA's, we generally do not sign an NDA unless there is truly confidential information that we will encounter about your product. As a true private label manufacturer, we can assure you that we take our clients privacy very seriously with no issues.

Our internal confidentiality policy is as such: all of our employees sign an NDA and a non-compete agreement, and we actively talk at length with all of our employees about the nature of private label manufacturing. We do not share information across clients. Ever. Our employees work on projects on a 'need-to-know' basis only. If they are not working directly on your product, then they are not informed or trained on any of the production tasks associated with it.

Do you have price breaks depending on volume?

Sometimes. Generally, the best pricing that we offer is when you can place regular standing orders rather than occasional high-volume orders.

What is the lead time for product development or production?

Lead times vary depending on the time of year, our production calendar and the complexity of your project. September through December it's generally 6-8 weeks and the rest of the year it's more like 4-6 weeks. 


SHOP FAQ :

Shipping info – Spooltown Shop orders generally ship within 5 business days of order placement. Occasionally the wait may be a bit longer since all products are handmade at our factory. All products are shipped USPS priority mail. At this time, we do not ship internationally. Please choose your shipping destination carefully. Packages should be shipped to a secure shipping address, as we are not accountable for lost, stolen or mis-delivered packages.

Return policy – If you are not satisfied with your order, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order and we will happily exchange for a different item. We do not offer exchanges/returns of any custom-branded promotional products as these are not resalable. We cannot offer refunds. Any returned item must arrive to us in its original, unused condition with original tags and packaging, and you are responsible for paying for the return shipping and shipping for the exchanged item. Original shipping charges are non-refundable. We recommend using a trackable shipping service, as Spooltown cannot assume responsibility for lost/stolen/damaged returns. All returns and exchanges must be approved beforehand. Please contact us at (info@spooltown.com) to receive a return authorization and exchange shipping instructions.

Warranty – We guarantee our products against workmanship defects for 1 year after purchase. Please contact us at (info@spooltown.com) if you believe your product is defective. Please understand before you place your order that leather is a natural product with marks and scars on the surface. We consider this part of the natural character of the product and not a flaw. We do not guarantee products against damage caused by use of the product, or external damage.
